Can I use a Lithium ION motorcycle battery in my bike?

Switching over your motorcycle starter to a lithium battery is becoming more and more popular with riders all over Australia, but one question we get a lot is

"Will my bike's stator charge a lithium?"

The answer is in most cases, Yes.

If your motorcycle was built after 1980 and is in good working condition, a lithium battery will be ideal. The charging system in your bike must charge between 13.4v and 14.6v

if your charging system puts out 13.3v and under the lithium will not charge, and if it is over 14.6v it means that your regulator might be about to fail and could trigger the over voltage protection. Both scenarios mean a Lithium WILL NOT be suited for your bike
